Torin Francis is an emerging Brisbane based artist originally from London. His practice reflects on temporality and transitional moments and considers a precarious material equilibrium by exploring formal and poetic relationships between objects and space, in site responsive installations, assemblages and moving image works. His methodology is process driven and includes using chance and in situ improvisation in which ad hoc methods such as propping, pinning, inflating and wedging give temporary form to the works. By re-evaluating and re-contextualising objects in space, Francis’s works seeks to dramatise the spatiotemporal dimension of the sculptural encounter and by extension our encounter with all objects.
